This report summarises the key results from the Rivers State of Environment (RSoE) monitoring programme for the period 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013. The RSoE programme incorporates monthly monitoring of water quality and periphyton cover at 55 river and stream sites across the Wellington region, and annual assessments of invertebrate community composition and periphyton biomass.
Note that the suitability of rivers for contact recreation purposes is reported separately under Greater Wellington Regional Councils recreational water quality monitoring programme (see Morar and Greenfield 2013). Information on river and stream flows during 2012/13 is presented in Harkness et al. (2013).
